Summary
[edit]DescriptionStateLibQld 1 200279 Glenmoor (ship).jpg |
English: Glenmoor (ship)
Caption on photo: This is another example of a new tramp ship built for trading under competitive conditions, but providing a good standard of crew accomodation. The ship, which is 9,540 tons d.w., is the first of four ordered from R. & W. Hawthorn, Leslie & Co. Ltd., by the Moor Line Ltd. The 3,300 b.h.p. Hawthorn Doxford engine can be run on heavy boiler oil. Telescopic topmasts give clearance under bridges such as those over the River Tyne and the Manchester Ship Canal. An unusual feature is the linking of the engine casing to the bridge structrue and the trunking up of No. 3 hatch to the deck so formed. |
