English: Winton-Longreach Mail Service delivered in an overloaded Hudson tourer, ca. 1920
A 1918/19 Hudson tourer set up as a service car with a trailer for the Winton-Longreach mail service, which operated between 1918-1921. Originally performed by Cobb & Co., this mail service was owned by the Wilkinson brothers of Winton, who later sold it to Messrs Dean and Wall. The driver of this vehicle is Mr Percy Blair and the man next to him is one of the partners in the business, Mr Joe Wilkinson. This extremely overloaded service cars has a mixture of passengers, mail and luggage, note the small children in the back seat. The straps supporting luggage on the running boards are made from the canvas of old motor tyres. 'Dicky seat' in the middle constructed by owners. The trailer was built in Winton by Mr. Wilkinson Snr. (Description supplied with photograph). |
