English: Sawyer Family.
Members of the family of Jessie David Sawyer who was Alderman for the East Ward of Brisbane in 1899. The family from left to right: Cyril Henry (Bill) Sawyer born 13 August 1888 (seated) and then his mother Patience Jemima Sawyer (nee Smith) wife of Jessie Sawyer, she was born 1858 and died 25 May 1916 in Brisbane. Then standing at centre back is Sidney Charles Sawyer, son of J. D. Sawyer and his wife. He was born 19 July 1881 in Brisbane, married in 6 November 1907 and died 7 July 1964. Sidney Sawyer later became a jeweller and one of his works, a buckle and belt, was in the Victoria and Albert Museum. He worked for Flavelle, Roberts and Sankey for a time, around 1904, and had a shop in Elizabeth Street, Brisbane around 1916-17. The next family member seated is Jessie David Sawyer who was either born or baptised 9 April 1854, married 20 July 1880 and died 16 October 1919. He was buried at Dutton Park Cemetery. His father was a tabacconist and Jessie may also have been one. He owned land at South Brisbane. The two girls are Ida May who was the older, born 19 December 1885 and Ruby Jane born 15 May 1887. This picture was probably taken after 1889 as another son died in 1889. (Description supplied with photograph). |
