Summary

[edit]
Description

This is the western portion of Incheon Airport's main (and in 2004, only) terminal. Foreign airlines tended to use these gates, and except for a Mongolian Airlines Boeing 737-800, all aircraft in sight are from current and future Star Alliance member airlines. And indeed, when alliance colocations happened at Incheon in 2008, Star Alliance airlines clustered toward the west side of the main terminal (Asiana) and new satellite terminal (everyone else).

The United aircraft had sat overnight, part of a contingency plan to evacuate American citizens (primarily family members of US servicemenbers stationed in South Korea) in case of a North Korean invasion. The contingency plan, part of the US Status of Forces Agreement with South Korea, has a dozen or so aircraft sit overnight at Incheon Airport - mostly Korean Air, a few Asiana, one or two United, and one Northwest (now Delta) - at South Korea's expense. Now the United is about to depart for San Francisco as Flight 892, and it will be my flight out.
