Summary
[edit]DescriptionStandard Model From Fermi Lab.jpg |
English: This represents the Standard model of elementary particles: You can see representations for 12 fundamental particles that make up matter (orange and green boxes) and 4 fundamental force carriers (purple boxes). Some of these appear to be 'anchored' to the Higgs boson in the center. The photon and gluon do not interact with the Higgs, so are massless. But the three neutrinos do interact with the Higgs, albeit weakly, so have a very small mass. The current theoretical framework that describes elementary particles and their forces, known as the Standard Model, is based on experiments that started in 1897 with the discovery of the electron. Today, we know that there are six leptons, six quarks and four force carriers. |
