Stamp of the German "Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren" (= Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia); 1939; definitive stamp DRBM Michel No. 8; definitive stamp of Czechoslovakia (Michel No. 349 from 1936) with double line overprint of the new country name "Böhmen und Mähren / Čechy a Morava" and fessed old coutry name.; The stamp motive shows a half-side portrait of Milan Rastislav Štefánik (1880-1919). Stefanik was politician, astromoner, army officer (later General), pilot and diplomat for the Slovak interests.; He is seen as founder of the "Czech Legion" with fighted in the WWI on side of the Entente-powers against his own compatriots and was 1919 one of the founders of an independent Czechoslovakia. In 1919 he was military pilote, his airplane was a Caproni Ca33.; The initial stamps issued from the government of this protectorate (Michel No. 1-19) were valid until to the (also accepted as mixed frankings). After could only still used the stamps of the German Empire or own stamps which were issued from the government of the protectorate. Reasonable was in each case the "Postal Supervision" (German: "Postaufsicht") of the German Empire.
