| Description |
Grade II* listed. The church dates from the early 13th century onwards and was rebuilt in 1821 and 1895. There is a western tower, nave with north aisle, vestry and chancel. The tower dates from the 16th century and has a reset 14th century caryatid. There are three bells, one from the 15th century.They are not ringable. The north aisle was rebuilt in 1821 by William Hayward, but the Early English three-bay arcade remains. The chancel was rebuilt in the 19th century, and uses an altar with a 15th century lettered slab. This was a Memorial to Margaret de Multon, Prioress at the nunnery which was established in the year 1200. The chancel arch has two carved heads, one of the Bishop and the other of a Green Man. The south wall of the nave has a small figure, possibly a Sheela na Gig. The tub font dates from the early 13th century and has a stiff leaf frieze. There is a single manual chamber organ from the late 19th century. |
