Object history | File of material relating to four angels on stained glass. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); description (date unspecified) by a docent, Hunt Museum, which states that the stained glass is believed to have come from Bristol Cathedral. Account further states that one of the angels depicted in the stained glass is carrying a trumpet. In 1912, Fred G. Bell offered a similarly-described item for sale. It had been part of the collection of Doctor Philip Nelson, Liverpool. Bell oversaw renovations at Bristol Cathedral during the period 1846-1876. Reference to ‘History of Design in Painted Glass,’ volume II, by N.H.J. Westlake (1882) as a source of information about the stained glass. Also present is letter (29 April 1997) from Phyllis A. Stoddart, volunteer, Decorative Art Department, Natinal Museum and Galleries on Merseyside, Liverpool Museum, to Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum. Writer states that she has been trying to identify glass plate photographs, recently discovered, and that several relate to stained glass held by the Hunt Museum. In relation to the sale of the stained glass by Bell referred to above, Stoddart quotes from a communication which states that Bell sold ‘the whole of the old glass’ to Grosvenor Thomas | ||||||||||||||||||||
