Description
English: Stagecoach in Lincolnshire bus 47397 (reg. YM55 SVJ), a 2006 Optare Solo midibus, pictured in the north of Lincoln, Lincolnshire on route 7 to the city centre. It was built as a conventional diesel powered bus, but it is one of 11 later converted by the company to run partly on bio-methane, carried in the roof mounted tank, as well as being refurbished. The gas is sourced from a mix of household and animal waste, and is fed into the engine once travelling at speed, with the aim of a 40 per cent carbon saving and increased fuel efficiency. The conversion was funded by Lincolnshire County Council and the East Midlands Development Agency. Launched in May 2011 at Whisby landfill site, the buses were to run for six to 12 months on city as well as rural routes, as technology demonstrators.
