Description

Staff of the Bureau of Chemistry in the Department of Agriculture in 1885, shortly after Wiley’s arrival in Washington. Left to right: A. C. Knorr (a chemist who later invented the Knorr tube); C. A. Dugan, a laboratory helper; C. A. Crampton, a chemist who later went to the Treasury Department; Harvey Wiley, Chief Chemist; C. Trescott, a specialist on nitrogen content and one of Wiley’s closest friends; and Miles Fuller, an assistant who was associated with Wiley in an early Washington, D. C., area real estate development (Somerset, Maryland).
