[edit]DescriptionStadtkirche St Johannis Hoym (6243615203).jpg |
On a notice outside the church, the history and features of the church is described thus: "Spätromanischer Bau –1461 umgebaut – damals 3 Bögen – auf der Nordseite eingebaut. lm Kirchenschiff ein Gemälde aus der Cranachschule. "KB - OG Hoym" Which, in translation, approximates to ST JOHANNIS' CHURCH "A late Romanesque building that was converted in 1461 when three arches were added to the north side. Within the church is a painting from Cranachschule depicting the von Thal family. (original owners: Oberhofes of Hoym, now LPG Schafzucht). At one time there was a convent belonging to the Diocese of Quedlinburg. Hans von Thal was murdered at Hohndorf and his family donated a sandstone sculpture of their murdered son that is located in the lower right of the bell tower. "The beautifully decorated doors, a royal coat of arms of the ducal family and a valuable Taufstein are worth seeing. In the 18th century a southern side chapel was added to the nave and Magnus von Hoym became canon. The current interior furniture was last renewed in 1911. "The church tower – the original weather vane was donated by the duke Alexander Carl and was replaced in 1986. "In the churchyard are sandstone sculptures, grave plates, an old monastery wall, family monuments in a protected area. "KB - OG Hoym" |
