| Description | St Peter's Church, Blaxhall, Suffolk, mural monument to Francis Saunders (1549-1618), who married Katherine Soone (d.1604).[1] Listed building text: "Alabaster monument to Francis Saunders 1621"[2]. Text from www.blaxhall.com/history[3]: "By 1638 ownership of the manor (of Blaxhall) had passed to William Saunders, who was possibly a descendant of the Francis Saunders 1549-1618 commemorated in the church. From this time it stayed with the Saunders family until passing to Robert Warren, who in turn sold it to John Bence." Arms: Per chevron sable and argent, three elephant's heads erased counterchanged (Saunders) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.898 "Saunders of Brickesworth, Northamptonshire" and other differences) |
