Description

St Peter's Church, Sibton, Suffolk, north side of chancel, mural monument to Sir Edmond Barker (d.1676) and his wife Mary Cooper / Cowper (Lady Barker) "two interlocked oval niches with frontal busts" (Listed building text[1]) . As the inscription states (see better image[2]) he was lord of the manor of Peasenhall and a Gentleman Pensioner in Ordinary to King Charles II. He married Mary Cooper / Cowper, a daughter of Sir William Cowper, 1st Baronet (1582–1664) and Knight, of Ratling Court, Nonington, Kent. Arms: Per chevron argent and gules a crescent counterchanged (Chapman (alias Barker)) impaling Argent, three martlets gules on a chief engrailed of the last three annulets or (Cowper (Earl Cowper)). Three brothers living when the settlement was made. The two elder since dead without issue. The third brother, William, now living. Manor of Peasenhall &c. My cousin Yerdley's wife. My godson Edward Yerdley. My cousin Edmund Alefounder. Fifty pounds of my cousin Jane Hodyern's money in my hands to be paid her.
