Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Peter's church - stained glass - geograph.org.uk - 773288.jpg |
English: St Peter's church - stained glass. Depicting St Peter, the patron saint of the church. According to tradition the church of St Peter was founded around the year 960. The church is situated in a bend of the same ancient road that also passes through Wicklewood and might have been used by pilgrims to the Old Saxon cathedral at North Elmham or to the Walsingham shrine. At some time in the past the tower, now topped with a pyramidal roof > 773274, has lost its upper stage. The church interior was extensively restored during Victorian times > 773281 and > 773283 but the font > 773284 is 16th century. The modern east window, commemorating the coronation of George VI and Elizabeth II, is by A.L. Wilkinson > 773285. St Peter's church houses several memorials to the Graver-Brownes who built Morley Hall > 773291. The church is kept locked. |
