Description

Interior of Church of St Paul, Mirfield, West Yorkshire, designed by William Swinden Barber in 1881. Showing encaustic tiles on chancel floor. The rest of the tiles match patterns made by Maw & Co., but this pattern chosen by Barber is unknown. This type of green glaze was susceptible to water damage, and could not be used in kitchens - that may explain the variation in colour, which is not unattractive, but is not like the original appearance.
