Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Nicholas Park, Warwick - geograph.org.uk - 1251866.jpg |
English: St Nicholas Park, Warwick A sinuous avenue of copper beech trees was planted in 1933, the year of the park's formal opening, to commemorate Warwick people who lost their lives in World War I. A plaque can be seen, lower left. Some plaques are being engulfed by tree roots. When the trees are in full leaf the avenue is distinctly gloomy. Perhaps the choice of tree reflected an association between death and the colour purple.
Swimming pool, left of centre, was built in the early 1980s to replace an outdoor pool. Feature-rich St Nicholas Park is inconveniently on a gridsquare intersection. Halfway along the swimming pool we venture into SP2965 and behind the viewpoint is SP2864. The centre of the park, off to the right, and Myton Fields across the river, is in SP2964. |
