Description

Stained glass in the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Shelf, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. Designed by Mallinson & Healey, and completed in 1850.

The dedication on this window says: "To the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of John Hanson Shaw, West Yorks, Killed in Action July 18th 1915, aged 21, buried at Ypres. Also his brother Joshua Harold Shaw, 2nd Lieut, 1st West Yorks, died of his Wounds May 1st 1918, buried at Esquelbecq France. This window was erected by their devoted parents. John xv.1"

Joshua was about 32 years old when he died. The parents were Thomas and Mary Shaw; Thomas W. Shaw was a designer of worsted cloth in 1901, and by 1911 was a worsted coating manufacturer and employer. By 1911 the family was living at 33 Brunswick Villas, Pudsey. John was a wool warehouseman, and Harold was a warp hoister. [1][2]
