Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Mary the Virgin, Fairford - geograph.org.uk - 553100.jpg |
English: St Mary the Virgin, Fairford. The Church of St Mary the Virgin was rebuilt in the 1490 in the Perpendicular style by at the behest of a local wool merchant, John Tame. Of the 28 windows, 27 still have their original stained glass making it unique for a Parish Church in England. The fact that the windows survived the ravages of the reformation and the puritans may be down to Royal Protection. The windows themselves are believed to contain portraits of various members of Royalty hidden in religious settings.
The church is also known for its church cat! 553096
