Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Mary, Easton Neston - Hatchment, circa 1830 (group of several others in this style in same church) of a wife (the sinister/wife half is black) of a baronet (canton of a baronet shown on his arms) whose husband's arms were Argent, an eagle displayed with two heads sable. The baronet married a daughter of the Fermor family, Earls of Pomfret, of Easton Neston, as his arms impale the arms of Fermor. There have been at least three baronetcies bearing these arms pre-20th century:
  • Glynne baronets of Hawarden Castle, Flintshire, created 1661;
  • Glyn Baronetcy, of Ewell in the County of Surrey, created 1759;
  • Glyn Baronetcy, of Gaunt's House in the County of Dorset, created in 1800 for Richard Carr Glyn. He was the fourth son of the first Baronet of the 1759 creation;
However no marriage of a Glyn/Glynne baronet to a Fermor daughter is apparent in standard sources. This is the funeral hatchment of that lady (the sinister/wife half is black), who therefore died circa 1830. The only baronet known to have married a daughter of the Fermor family of Easton Neston is Sir Thomas George Fermor-Hesketh, 5th Baronet (1825-1872) who married Lady Arabella Fermor the sister and heiress of George Fermor, 5th Earl of Pomfret, and the daughter of General Thomas Fermor, 4th Earl of Pomfret. These are not the arms of Hesketh.
