DescriptionSt Mary's church in Ufford - monument - geograph.org.uk - 1939202.jpg | Monument to w:Sir Henry Wood, 1st Baronet (1597-1671), who is buried in the church. For transcript of inscription see Nichols, John, Bibliotheca Topographica Britannica, Volume 7, Antiquities in Leicestershire, London, 1790, p.345, Appendix to the History of Hinckley[1]. He was Treasurer of the Household to Queen Henrietta Maria and at the Restoration of the Monarchy he was appointed as Clerk of the Green Cloth. He purchased from Samuel Blannerhasset the manor of Ufford (in which was the estate of Loudham Park). Heraldic shield above showing arms of Wood: Azure, three naked savages ambulant in fesse proper in the dexter hand of each a shield argent charged with a cross gules in the sinister a club resting on the shoulder also proper on a canton ermine three lozenges conjoined in fesse sable. |
