Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Mary's church - stained glass window - geograph.org.uk - 1399033.jpg |
English: St Mary's church - stained glass window. St Mary's church > 1399018 - 1399029 is located some distance away from the busy Quidenham Road, adjoined by a woodland where once the village of Eccles stood. The church has a round tower which dates from Norman times and an early English chancel. A 14th century south aisle has been demolished at some time with the top parts of the arcades > 1399032 filled by frosted glass windows. The north porch, now blocked off, has an attractive outer arch supported by round pillars > 1399025. There is a double piscina in the chancel and the altar consists of a simple but very large original C15 mensa slab > 1399030 with 5 consecration crosses carved into it. The pulpit is Jacobean > 1399036 and the octagonal font > 1399038 dates from the 14th century. |
