Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Mary's church - baptismal font and cover - geograph.org.uk - 941713.jpg |
English: St Mary's church - baptismal font and cover. St Mary's > 941658 chancel, porch, south door and much of the nave walls date from the 14th century; the massive tower > 941662 with the remains of a sundial > 941664 on its south wall, arcading, chancel arch, clerestory and roofs are C15. The nave has a hammerbeam roof with figures of saints holding musical instruments and angels holding shields; the remains of a doom painting can be seen above the chancel arch > 941675. St Michael's chapel in the north aisle > 941703 has reredos that were made up from 4 medieval panels > 941707 - the parclose screen is C16. The chancel > 941681 was restored and reordered in 1897 but retains its C14 sedilia, piscina and easter sepulchre. The stained glass > 941686 - 941692 is a complete set by Percy Bacon of London. The Norman-style font (seen here) dates from the late 19th century; its font cover > 941715 opens up to reveal painted panels. (Information taken from a leaflet compiled by Richard Butler-Stoney). The church is open every day. See also: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/northcreake/northcreake.htm |
