Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Mary's Church, Odstock The church was largely rebuilt in the 1870's in flint and stone, but the interior still has traces of Norman work in one of the chancel windows. Buried in the churchyard are the remains of an old gypsy called Joshua Scamp who was hanged in Salisbury in April 1801, after being wrongfully found guilty of stealing a horse. His son-in-law had actually committed this capital crime, and the old gypsy preferred to pay the ultimate penalty of being a devoted father rather than see his daughter made a widow.
