Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Margaret's church - rood screen. Due to its isolated location St Margaret's church > 1338960 which stands on an elevation north of the River Chet, has escaped extensive restoration and the church today looks pretty much as it looked 500 years ago > 1338980 - 1338990 - 1339012. The porch dates from the 14th century. There are no aisles, the octagonal font is C15 > 1339018 and several years ago two wall paintings were discovered near the south door which date from this time also. The larger one depicts St Christopher, the smaller figure shows St Catherine who carries her wheel emblem > 1339004. Two consecration crosses > 1339028 were discovered more recently. The oak pulpit is Jacobean and the rood screen dates from the 15th century, albeit restored. The altar is surrounded by 18th century rails. This church is open every day.
