[edit]DescriptionSt John Baptist, Baginton. Aircraftman 2nd Class Edward Cebula (3074543063).jpg |
English: Headstone in the parish churchyard of St John the Baptist, Baginton, Warwickshire, of Szeregowiec (AC2) Edward Cebula, No. 308 (Krakow) Squadron, Polish Air Force, who was stationed at RAF Baginton. Cebula and two other 308 Sqn personnel, Szeregowiec (AC2) Josef Jurkowski and Starszy Szeregowiec (AC1) Franciszek Krzeminski, were killed in the Coventry Blitz on the night of 14 November 1940.
One account states that they left an air raid shelter to investigate falling parachutes that they suspected were parachutists. The were in fact parachute retarded landmines that detonated before reaching the ground. Another Polish source states that they were killed by a direct hit on the Rialto cinema.
