Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Giles' church - rood screen detail. St Giles' church > 874650 - 874659 is located beside the Fakenham to Walsingham road, a short distance from the village of Little Walsingham which lies across the River Stiffkey and enjoys many thousands of visitors and pilgrims every summer weekend, who come to visit the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady. St Giles' was rebuilt by architect William Eden Nesfield in 1877, re-using much of the original materials. An unusual rood screen, dating from the 15th century, survives > 874651. Unusual, because the panels on the north side do not depict saints or apostles but a sequence of the Holy Kinship, ie portraits of women that are associated with Christ and the Disciples (seen here). The church is usually open. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/houghtonstgiles/houghtonstgiles.htm
