Description
English: St George Colegate, Norwich - C19 memorial. Text per Farrer, Edmund, Church Heraldry of Norfolk, Vol 3 (1893) Lynn, Norwich, Thetford, Yarmouth, p.46[1] Three herrings haurient, between nine cross- crosslets (Herring: Gules, three herrings haurient, two and one, between nine cross-crosslets argent, three, three, and three) Crest : A dove with olive branch in its mouth, resting beside it a shepherd's crook. For "John Herring, Esq' of this parish, who died Sep' 22, 1810, aged 61, Sheriflf of this city, 1786 ; elected Alderman, 1798, and Mayor in the following year. Rebecca Herring, his wife, who died Jan^ 2, 1827, aged 81." On other memorials, " James Herring, who died June 13, 1803, aged 45 ; Elizabeth his wife, who died Nov' 5, 1813, aged 48. Catherine, daughter of John and Catherine Herring, who died Sep' 13, 1806, aged 16 months. George Barnwell, 4th and youngest son of John and Catherine Herring, who died Feb. 12, 1833, aged 19. Catherine, beloved wife of John Herring, who died March 18, 1840, aged 66. John Herring, who died Oct 10, 1842, aged 68. James Buckle, son of John and Rebecca Herring, who died Oct' 29, 1780, aged 4. Hannah, their daughter, who died July 12, 1782, aged 7. John, who died an infant. Also for John Herring, who died Feb. 24, 1786, aged 68 ; and Ann his wife, who died Feb. 19, 1808, aged 78."
