Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Charles Borromeo Church Hull.jpg |
English: Roman Catholic church of St Charles Borromeo, Jarratt Street, Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, seen from the northwest. Roman Catholic church of St. Charles Borromeo, Jarratt Street, 1828-9 by John Earle Junior. St. Charles Borromeo seems to have had a fast-track career in the Papal service. Born 1538, cleric in 1547 (age 11), Cardinal in 1560 (age 22). Due to his enforcement of strict ecclesiastical discipline, some disgruntled monks in the Order of the Humiliati hired a lay brother to murder him on the evening of 26 October 1569; he was shot at, but was not hit. He died in 1584. |
