[edit]DescriptionSt Botolph's Church in Barford - geograph.org.uk - 675514.jpg |
English: St Botolph's Church in Barford Viewed from the churchyard. St Botolph's church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1995534 was built in several stages, beginning in the 12th century. The nave was rebuilt in about 1470 and extensive restoration work was carried out in Victorian times. The rood screen > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1995545 is believed to be original, albeit overpainted. It is said to once have had and inscription and the royal arms of Queen Elizabeth I on the tympanum above it. There also used to be a musician's gallery but this was taken down in the mid-1800s. The church houses a number of memorial slabs > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1995561 to members of the Sedley family, the local Lords of the Manor. |
