| Description |
English: St Andrew's Church, Kirby Bedon, Norfolk, mural monument to "Robert Sheppard (d.1600) and his wife wife Anne Underwood (1544-1642), a daughter of William Underwood (d.1560) of Weston, Hertfordshire. (Source: jmc4 - Church Explorer [1]). Painted plaster and stone. Architectural frame with strapwork decoration contains square recessed niche in which the two figures kneel to right and left of prayer desk. Figures in Elizabethan costume. Above is a strapwork archievement. Predella contains latin inscription. Below is a scrolled apron with coat of arms". (Source: listed building text[2]). Arms: Argent, on a chief indented gules three poleaxes or (Shepperd) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.921 "Shepperd of Kirbydon, (sic) Norfolk") impaling Gules, on a fess ermine between three annulets or a lion passant azure (Underwood) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.1044, variants). |
