English: St Aidan Church, Billinge, Grave This piece of information has been contributed by Andy Caunce. "As I understand George Smith was a quarry worker who was bitten by a snake and died whilst having a nap after eating his dinner at work. The skull represents death, the snake-obvious and the wings of a bat represent night/sleep. When Kitty Smith died at a later date the tomb was lifted and she was laid on top of her husband and the tomb resealed." |
