| Description | New Orleans: Old St. Louis Hotel building, early 20th century. French Quarter, View from Chartres Street between Conti and St. Louis Streets looking down and slightly out. The hotel building opened in 1835, was badly damaged in the great hurricane of 1915 and demolished later that year (except for a series of archways on the Charters Street side incorporated into later buildings which can still be seen). Construction on the District Courts Building across from the hotel began in 1908; the construction visible in front of the hotel suggests this year as the date. | ||||||
