Description

Deutsch: Steinkreuz bei der alten katholischen Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche Heilig Kreuz und St. Wilgefortis in Neufahrn.

Historisches Sühnekreuz
Ursprünglich stand es am alten Freisinger Weg, von Feldern umgeben am östlichen Ortsrand. Im Zuge der Bebauung wurde es in den nahen Garten der Familie Eschlwech am Raiffeisenweg/Josef-Zauser-Weg versetzt. Seit 2013 steht das Kreuz hier im alten Kirchenfriedhof.
Nach der Ortslegende markierte das Steinkreuz die Stelle, an der 1397 die Ochsen, die das wundertätige Wilgefortis-Kreuz nach Neufahrn gezogen hatten, nicht mehr zum Weitergehen zu bewegen waren. Kunsthistoriker gehen davon aus, dass es sich bei dem Steinmonument um ein jahrhundertealtes Sühnekreuz handelt, das zur Buße für eine Missetat aufgestellt worden war.
