Description
Deutsch: Die evangelische St.-Petri-Kirche in Bad Frankenhausen, auch Altstädter Kirche genannt, wurde 1980 zusammen mit dem Dorf Altstadt in die Stadt Bad Frankenhausen eingemeindet. In dem Bau sind die Reste einer größeren Vorgängerkirche aus dem 10. Jahrhundert eingebunden. Nur der mit einer Apsis versehene Chor blieb erhalten. In der Kuppel der Apsis sind im 14. Jahrhundert geschaffene Fresken mit Szenen des Jüngsten Gerichts dargestellt, die aber im 19. Jahrhundert verändert wurden. Der Kirchenmaler Wernicke bereicherte dabei das Wandbild auch um die ursprünglich nicht vorhandene „Höllenszene“ am rechten Bildrand. Die Fensteröffnungen gehen auf das 13. Jahrhundert zurück. Die letzte Sanierung der Kirche erfolgte 1996.( → vgl. Bad Frankenhausen/ Kultur und Sehenswürdigkeiten)
