Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 308 Fillmore Avenue at Oneida Street, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. Here, the architectural work of Władysław Zawadzki - working here in a Romanesque style where round arches abound, both atop windows crowned in turn with prominent stone hood moldings as well as compound ones at the entrance, with Classical pediments above; quite a different aesthetic from his usual one - is augmented by a 1988 addition which added vaulting to the nave and transept (far right, at roofline) and cupolas to the front towers (upper left). Borne of a 1905 schism in the former SS. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Russian Orthodox Church in Lovejoy, St. Nicholas was the first, and is today the only remaining, Ukrainian Catholic congregation in the City of Buffalo, a constituent parish of the Eparchy of Stamford, Connecticut. The church seen here was erected in 1920 after three years of construction.
