h, with the lens point-ing directly into the nest. I focused it, andthen waited patiently for the young hawksto be still. I had expected to photographeggs only, and had no fast plates with me.But the little rascals kept twisting their headsfirst in one direction and then in another, until MY FIRST HAWKS NEST. I was obliged to put them into our lunch-basketand lower them to my brother. I was then ableto take the photograph of the nest and eggs,which accompanies this story. After takingthe photograph I drew up the basket and re-placed the young birds in the nest. If any of the boys or girls who have readthis story would like to see exactly what thebaby hawks looked like, they can do so bypaying a visit to the Museum of Natural His-tory in New York. There they will find, alittle to the right of the Seventy-seventh Streetentrance, a glass case containing a group, asnatural as life, of red-shouldered hawks, repre-senting the old birds feeding the downy youngones in the nest. IN APRIL DAYS.
