Those days marking theclose of the eighteenth century saw the begin-nings of the Methodist Church. When its greatfounder and preacher died in 1791, the numberof Methodists had reached 119,000. When theEcumenical Council was held in City Road,the old cradle of the church, in 1891, the num- morial to Matthew Simpson, one of Americasgreatest Methodist bishops. This memorialis the inspiration of Bishop Vincent and theRev. Charles Kelly. The window was made inMunich, and in glorious colorings representsSt. Paul preaching at Athens; at the lower leftcorner there is a head of Bishop Simpson.At the bottom of the window are the words: Erected by American Methodists to the memory ofBishop Matthew Simpson.
