THE AUNT S SONG OF GRATITUDE. No one at home but Rox Ha, the house-keeper, knew anything about this night adven-ture, and the old ladies never said a word ; butall day they watched Lu Sing to see if anychange took place in her. No ; she was very perverse, and would say pag when Ju Huhwanted her to say pug. She also called herteacher a mush-wag, which means oldfuss, and was a naughty child till school wasover; then she came smiling out to get herlunch of sugared cakesmade of melon seedsand plums. The aunts did notpunish her; they wait-ed, hoping some good win, or spirit, wouldcome into her heartand make her a betterchild. But nothinghappened till she wentto bed, and then noone knew it but LuSing. The aunts veryearly put on the tallblue paper extinguish-ers, which they used asnight-caps, and wentto sleep, being weariedafter the long night onthe hill.
