DescriptionSt. Michael's, Beccles- memorial (3) - geograph.org.uk - 2030982.jpg | Mural monument, St. Michael's Church, Beccles, Suffolk, to Katherine Starkie (1767-1814), widow of Nicholas Starkie I (1768-1797) of Dickleburgh Norfolk (whose mural monument survives in All Saints Church, Dickleburgh, see imageFile:All Saints church Dickleburgh Norfolk (432481108).jpg) and youngest daughter of Robert Edgar of (the Red House), Ipswich, Suffolk. They had three children, a son Nicholas Starkie II (1792-1795) who died as an infant, and two daughters, one of whom was Katherine Starkie (1770-1827) who married Cranstoun Bacon. "From filial affection and a grateful recollection of her parental care and attention", the two daughters erected the monument to their mother in Beccles Church. Her husband Nicholas Starkie I (1768-1797) was the only son of Thomas Starkie of Frenchwood in Lancashire, as is stated on his monument in Dickleburgh Church. Arms: Argent, a bend sable between six storks proper (Starkie) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.965 "Starkie of Huntroyd, Lancashire")) with inescutcheon of Per chevron or and azure, in chief two fleurs-de-lis of the second in base five lozenges of the first each charged with an escallop gules (Edgar) (Burke, p.314 "Edgar of the Red House, Ipswich, Suffolk") |
