Summary

[edit]
Description The amazing wooden 15th Century Perpendicular fan-vaulted rood screen in the Mid 14th Century Decorated St. Mary Magdalene Church, Exford, North Devon, 09/12. The rood screen was originally built in St. Audrey's, West Quantoxhead, West Somerset which was pulled down for rebuilding in 1857. The parishioners did not want the screen in their new church so stored it in a barn, where it was forgotten about for 40 years. The Church authorities then "rediscovered" it and decided to put in the church at Williton, but it would not fit so was sent to the Victoria & Albert Museum, South Kensington. It was then found to be a perfect fit for Exford Church, where it was re-erected in 1929.
