Description |
English: St Martin's church, Lincoln, about 1784, by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm. The church was on St Martin's Lane at the top of the High Street. Parliamentarian forces almost completely destroyed it in the Civil War, and it was not restored until 1740. When the new St Martin's church was built in the late 19th century the old one was demolished leaving only the tower. The tower was demolished in the 1930s, and the 19th-century church was demolished in 1970. |
