English: The castle was first mentioned in 1373. It belonged to the estate of the Barons of Enne, who from 1315 to 1416 resided at Grimmenstein Castle, which is located somewhat higher up on the hillside. Another source says that the Lords of Grimmenstein were mentioned as builders in 1320. From 1418, the castle was in the hands of the city of St. Gallen. The city appointed a bailiff for the small lordship, who lived from 1429 to 1546 in the Vorburg bought by the city hospital. From 1546 the manorial residence was used by St. Gallen and Graubünden patricians. The Vorburg was either refurbished or new built in 1602. In this connection a Prince Reuss is mentioned. A Paul Valär from Fideris is also mentioned as an owner. He died in 1684. From 1877 to 1918 the property belonged to a Johann Schelling. The owner in the 80s was the Weissenberger family. At that time there was a café and a bakery in the basement. Next to the castle there are two inhabited farmhouses of a former estate. People say, there are seven rooms, each with its own bathroom, a large shared bath, a large kitchen like of a restaurant and an elevator from the basement to the top floor. A surrounding wall and a park was never completed. The castle stands in the open meadow. The castle is 30 m higher than the connecting road between Rheineck and St. Margrethen where there is a junction of a narrow road upwards.
