Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt. James, East Lambrook, Somerset - geograph.org.uk - 1608793.jpg |
English: St. James, East Lambrook, Somerset The church is very simple indeed with few adornments. The blue altar frontal is unusual as it is not one of the main seasonal church colours, but here, as in other small country churches it is still used instead of the purple of Advent and Lent. Although blue is sometimes seen as the penitential colour for the old Sarum Rite, it's more likely that it was a ploy of a vestment maker to sell yet another seasonal colour to churches.... See http://cantuar.blogspot.com/2005/12/liturgical-colors-in-sarum-rite.html for more details. |
