Description

I ended an excellent day of hiking and exploration of the Arizona Strip at the St George Temple, at sunset. It was quite a day: Started out in Kanab, Utah; went hiking and exploring the Toroweap section of the Grand Canyon, exploring the Nampaweap Petroglyphs, and driving sections of the Temple trail. Iended up in St George, where I had a nice dinner and then walked around the area of the St George temple, architecture that I really like.

I would recommend this as a great fully day trip. The distance was about 250 km (160 miles) but much of the driving was at 40 km/hr (25 mph). A high ground clearance vehicle (or willingness to park and walk some sections) is recommended.

The St. George Utah Temple (formerly the St. George Temple) is the first temple completed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the forced exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois, within two years of the death of Joseph Smith, Jr. Located in the city of St. George, Utah, it was designed by Truman O. Angell and is more similar in its design to the Nauvoo Temple than to later LDS temples.

As an aside - I'm not a member of any formal religion but there a thought that has resonated in my head the last few years is: The Glory of God Is Intelligence. While that has been most clearly expressed in LDS writings, it is echoed in many religions. See for example, the essay "The Glory of God is Intelligence": A Note on Maimonides by Raphael Jospe maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/publications/review/?vol=19&...

I want to now read Glory of God Is Intelligence: Four Lectures on the Role of Intellect in Judaism by Jacob Neusner to learn more on this topic. (Which I just got on my Kindle a few seconds ago - sometimes I really admire technology - thanks Amazon!)
