Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Originally opened in 1893, and one of the oldest tourist attractions still in operation in Florida, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm has called Anastasia Island home from the very beginning. Originally at the end of a trolley line that ran across Anastasia Island, the Alligator Farm moved to it’s current location on Anastasia Boulevard (Florida State Road A1A) in the early 1920s. Following a change in ownership and a fire in the 1930s, the current entrance structure was built of concrete in 1937 in the Mediterranean Revival style. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park features many species of animals, and maintains one of the most comprehensive collections of alligator species in their exhibits. The zoo was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, with the entrance building along Anastasia Boulevard being the principal contributing building in the district.
