English: Funerary stele of the "divine drawer" Kbeperkare-embat, in the Musée des beaux-arts in Rennes (France). Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom period. The stele could have been deviced during the reign of Amenemhat II, the successor of Sesostris I (end of XXth century BC or beginning of XIXth century BC.) Limestone block. 61,5 x 29,5 x 10 centimeters. This was a gift of Dr Godefroy to the museum in 1871. The stele celebrates the life of a drawer who is figured here surrounded by his family and close relations. In the upper part of the stele, he can be viewed standing in front of three characters including his wife. The other characters carved on the lower part are also members of his family. The names of the characters imitate those of pharaohs of the XIIth dynasty. |
