Description

This mask may have been used in Kolam performaces. These ritual performances were staged to appease the gods and demons, so that they would confer their blessings or heal the afflicted. This mask represents Heraya, the soldier from the Kolam play, his yellow face covered with cuts and sores, with leeches applied to them.
