| Description |
English: Srath Tarabhan The pass between Glen Lyon and Glen Orchy at a point a few hundred metres short of the watershed between the Tay and Orchy systems. This is the western march of Argyll with a view through to the hills of Breadalbane (the northern end of Beinn Heasgarnich). This pass was an important trade route and used as a coffin road by the Campbells of Glen Lyon.
For many years the route remained little used, as the Perthshire end was flooded by the raising of Loch Lyon, but now that there are bulldozed roads along the loch, it is again a good cross country route. The pass is full of hillocks left behind by streams running off glaciers. |
