35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Mammalia; Order: Rodentia; Family: Sciuridae; Genus: Petaurus; Genus species: Petaurus norfolcensis. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 180-230 mm; Weight: 190-300 g; Identification: The fur of the squirrel glider varies from blue to brown shades of gray. There is a dark dorsal stripe from the eyes to the mid-back, distinct facial markings, and cream-colored undersides; Habitat: Dry forests, woodlands, rainforests; Diet: Omnivore: insects, acacia gum, sap, nectar, pollen, green seeds; Reproduction: The breeding season is during the months of June and July. Group nests are built in hollow trees. The female's two offspring remain in her pouch 70 days after birth; Social Structure: A family group consists of one adult male and 1+ adult female(s) with young (up to ten members); Behavior: The squirrel glider is very similar to the better-known sugar glider; Status: May be endangered in southern range due to habitat loss; Interesting Facts: The tail makes up over 50 percent of the total length of the squirrel glider.
