Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Springhead pumping station / museum, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
The medieval town of Hull had a long history of problems with the availability of drinking water, and the nearest available source of sufficient volumes (prior to 20th century technology) was the springs which rose at the foot of the wolds. This pumping station harnessed those springs and provided water to the town via open channels, an example being "Spring Bank". The culverting of these channels took place as a consequence of cholera outbreaks, see 531941.
